Information Services
How Can We Help You Today? The Information Desk is staffed with trained librarians who are able to assist library users with their information needs. Adults and children alike can find help locating a book, beginning a research project or finding the answer to a question. If we are unable to provide the necessary information using either print or electronic resources, the question can be forwarded to our secondary reference source, MCLS.
The CollectionThe collection of approximately 90,000 books includes both reference and circulating materials for adults and children. Popular magazines and local newspapers are also available for your reading enjoyment. The nonfiction and reference collection focuses primarily on school assignments, personal interests and job-related skills. Videos, DVDs, audiobooks and compact discs complete the circulating collection. Patrons are able to search the online catalog to access materials at the Santa Fe Springs City Library and the Downey City Library. The online catalog also includes a link to the library's database collection which features the following information: magazine articles, newspaper articles, Opposing Viewpoints, ReferenceUSA, Health and Wellness, auto repair research, testing and education, and readers advisory. Interlibrary LoanInterlibrary loan service can be used to locate books that are not available at our library. This service is especially helpful to genealogists needing microfilm from out-of-state sources. There is a $2.00 charge which is paid when materials arrive. Photocopies of magazine and newspaper articles can usually be obtained free of charge. Books can be transferred between the Downey City Library and Santa Fe Springs City Library at no charge. The library maintains a small computer station at the Neighborhood Center, 9255 Pioneer Blvd. The computers are available for use by Seniors Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Homework Help Center is also located at the Nieto Branch. Homework help is offered in the lab Monday through Thursday afternoons from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. for students in grades 3-6. Call the library for further information. The Library is committed to helping those who cannot come to the Library and have no caregiver to access materials for them. Homebound service is available for Santa Fe Springs residents only. Materials accessible through the service include books, videos, CDs, and DVDs. If you or someone you know is a homebound Santa Fe Springs resident in need of this service, please contact the library at (562) 868-7738.
