City Boards & Commissions
The City Council is looking for civic-minded resident volunteers who are willing to serve on the various City Committees. Committee service provides an opportunity for residents to participate in City affairs, provide input on policy decisions, and work with fellow citizens and City staff in shaping the future of Santa Fe Springs. If you would like to be considered for a City Committee, you may complete an application and return it to the City Clerk’s Office. All applications are maintained on file for one full year. As vacancies occur on the various committees, the applicants are considered for appointment by the Council. Committee members serve two-year terms. Unless otherwise noted, committee members do not receive compensation for serving. CITY COMMISSIONSPlanning Commission Studies, approves, and recommends to the Council adoption of a general plan guide; considers and acts upon requests for zone changes and conditional use permits. The Commission approves tentative parcel and subdivision maps for the division of land in the City. Planning Commissioners receive compensation of $50 per meeting for up to two meetings per month. Candidates should have an interest in, and understanding of, the general planning process, zoning regulations, the granting of Conditional Use Permits, and the ability to comprehend parcel and subdivision maps. - 2nd & 4th Mondays of the month - 4:30 p.m.
City Hall
Traffic Commission Serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters relating to traffic control and public safety. Commissioners receive compensation of $50 per meeting for up to two meetings a month. Candidates should have an interest in traffic control and public safety. - 3rd Thursday of the month - 7:00 p.m.
City Hall
Beautification Committee Advises the Council on policy matters concerning beautification of the City. Candidates should have an active interest in promoting beautification of the City, including, but not limited to, an interest in landscaping and the aesthetic development of the City. - 4th Thursday of the month - 9:30 a.m.
Town Center Hall
Community Program Committee Plans and coordinates programs for the education or entertainment of the City's residents. Candidates should have an interest in promoting the arts and an understanding of the educational/cultural needs of the community. - 3rd Wednesday of the month - 7:30 p.m.
City Library
General Plan & Community Development Advisory Committee Assist in developing information related to the City’s General Plan and the Community Development Program. Candidates should have an active interest in the commercial and residential development of the City; ability to understand zoning regulations and criteria established by the Federal Government regarding the City’s General Plan and Community Block Grants. - as needed - 7:30 p.m.
Varies
Historical Committee Collects and preserves memorabilia relative to the history of Santa Fe Springs. Candidates should have an interest in the City’s heritage and historical preservation of the City. - 3rd Tuesday of January, April, June & October - 7:00 p.m.
City Library
Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee Advises on programs that best meet the recreational needs of the community; assists in policy formation regarding conservation and recreational activities. Candidates should have an active interest in sports, recreation programs and open-space preservation. - 1st Wednesday of the month - 7:00 p.m.
City Library
Personnel Advisory Board Investigates and/or hears appeals submitted by a City employee. Candidates should have professional or volunteer experience in labor relations or personnel administration. - Twice a Year (as needed)
City Hall
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee Plans and conducts projects that will fosters mutual understanding about Senior Citizens. Candidates must be 60 years of age or older with an active interest in Senior affairs. - 3rd Friday of the month - 10:00 a.m.
Neighborhood Center
Sister City Committee Plans and conducts projects which fosters mutual goodwill and understanding between the citizenry of Santa Fe Springs and the citizenry of any foreign city designated as a “Sister City.” Candidates must be interested in international goodwill and diversity. - 1st Monday of the month - 6:30 p.m.
Town Center Hall
Social Services Advisory Committee Advises and recommends programs designed to meet the social needs of the City. Candidates should have an active interest in social services and an awareness of the needs of the residents.Professional or volunteer experience in social service management would be helpful, but not required. - 3rd Wednesday of the month - 6:00 p.m.
Neighborhood Center
Youth Leadership Committee Fosters greater involvement of youth in the community and municipal government. The committee studies probelms, activities, and concerns of youth as they relate to municipal programs or projects of the City and recommends solutions to the Council. Candidates must be between the ages of 13 and 18 years. No more than 2 family members may participate on the committee during any term.
