Gustavo R. Velasco, Mayor
Gustavo (Gus) Velasco was first elected to the City Council in March of 2001, and served as Mayor from 2003-2004. Gus has been a resident of Santa Fe Springs since he was one year old. He is a graduate of Whittier High School and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Education from California State University, Los Angeles.

Gus taught for the Los Nietos School District prior to begining his career with the City in 1961 as a Recreation Leader. In 1969, Gus was appointed Director of the Santa Fe Springs Neighborhood Center where he worked for over 11 years. He was then promoted to the position of Assistant City Manager for Community Services, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring.

Gus and his wife, Annie, have four adult children, and eleven grandchildren.
